How to Manage Yourself Main
The state Department of Education solicited advice for Georgia high school graduates on its social media page. Here is a sampling of what they received.
1. In college, sit at the front of the class, never skip class no matter how tired, hung-over, or overwhelmed your are.
2. Pay your credit card in full every month and just don't buy things you can't pay for at the end of the month.
3. Treat others the way you'd like to be treated.
4. Do your research before you vote and vote all the way down the ballot.
5. Vote for the world you want to live in.
6. Be on time.
7. Remember that true education is learning how to learn and using that skill in all areas of life, not just in the classroom.
8. Be kind.
9. As soon as you start working, start investing in a 401(k).
10. You don't need a fancy degree to be successful. It's okay to want to work with your hands.
11. If you are going to college, read the syllabus, realize that do-overs and extra credit are likely things of the past, and don't decide to improve your grade at the end of the semester.
12. If you have a uterus get an IUD now before they try to make them illegal.
13. When you choose a profession, make it something interesting that gets you out of bed each day.
14. Focus on degrees that are in demand, including engineering, computer science, finance, accounting and other STEM or business areas. Or go to a technical school and learn a trade.
15. When the UGA department of political science assures you that there are plenty of jobs, walk in the other direction.
16. Some days you will want to curl up in a ball, but get back out there and keep fighting.
17. Floss the teeth you want to keep.
18. Don't go into teaching or move overseas to do it.
19. You cannot wear athletic wear to everything.
20. Wear sunscreen and cut back on sugar.
21. Don't stop reading. Make it a cherished habit. Read old books. Read new books. Read books written by authors unlike you. Discover new worlds but also discover how much is not new at all.
22. Never stop learning.
23. We learn from our mistakes. Don't give up when things get hard. Grit and challenging work will help you achieve your goals in life.
24. Find what grounds you and gives you inner peace.

25. Try very hard to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
26. Study what you don't know.
27. Find out what you don't know by studying with one or two other serious students. Question and teach each other.
